This September, INDESCAT took part in a strategic mission to the Swedish region of Skåne, together with 15 Catalan clusters. The mission, organised by ACCIÓ, aimed to explore one of Europe’s most advanced innovation ecosystems and to establish synergies for future European projects.
Located in southern Sweden, Skåne ranks as the 10th European region in innovation leadership, recognised as the birthplace of inventions such as Bluetooth and facial recognition. During the visit, Cristina Naches Olaria, representing INDESCAT, had the opportunity to discover an innovative environment where the health, green transition, and digitalisation sectors are top priorities.
The agenda included key visits to the cities of Malmö and Lund, as well as meetings with 11 regional clusters, including OpenTech, Game Habitat, FoodTech Innovation in Food, IUC Syd, and Sustainable Business Hub. With the latter, INDESCAT is already exploring the possibility of collaborating on a European project on sustainability in the sports sector.
Among the main activities of the mission, a highlight was the visit to Media Evolution, an open, community-owned platform that exemplifies the triple helix model —public administration, academic and research institutions, and the business community— fostering entrepreneurship.
In Lund, the group visited the Lund Innovation District and Lund University, discovering leading institutions such as LINXS (Institute of Advanced Neutron and X-ray Science), the MAX IV Laboratory, one of the most powerful synchrotron light sources in the world, and Medicon Village, the largest life science park in Scandinavia.
One of the key learnings from the mission was the importance of building foresight, applying creativity and new knowledge to past and present facts to achieve better and different outcomes.
At INDESCAT, we highly value this experience and look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Skåne region, developing projects that foster green transition and digitalisation in the sports industry.
Finally, we would like to thank the Skåne regional team for their warm welcome, as well as ACCIÓ —Alberto Pezzi, Guiomar Ibáñez Zárate and Irmelin Mimi Eva Ipsen— for organising such a fruitful mission, and all the Catalan cluster representatives for their active involvement and knowledge sharing.
